I've read all three of the books and they are nothing like the LOTR books, which I have also read. Terry Brroks Shanarrah series is the LOTR ripoff if you are looking for one. IT's easy to determine - read The Golden Compass then read the Fellowship of the ring and see if there are any similarities....

This is easy for me - Dvorak's 9th symphony. Probably followed by some Debussy and some Beethoven piano sonatas. I love many other genres of music as well so I am not sure which genre would hit the CD player first. But, the classical mentioned above would be the first classical music I played.

I was considering the Uchida set until I read a review that said it was recorded poorly, by someone on Amazon.com. I prefer well made recordings if possible. Someone here even said they weren't fond of the way the Wurtz was recorded so I am having some difficulty deciding on a set at this time.
