Nelson Freire made his recording debut in 1967 with Brahms' F minor sonata. Now--50 years later--he has returned to it with this beautifully performed and recorded CD. The accompanying shorter pieces are also very fine.

Hyperion has served Bortkiewicz rather well. Stephen Coombs has recorded a double album (2 for the price of 1) of solo piano music, as well as the composer's piano concerto. Martyn Brabbins has recorded the Symphonies 1 & 2. I recommend all of them.
