I would have never guessed that anyone here had an Ormandy let alone 2 others besides myself. I have the Columbia LP made around 1960.

Tampa in the way??? No way!!!

As of right now, it's heading for the panhandle of FL.

If Dennis hits around Pensacola or west of it, I'm in good shape. If it hits between Destin and Tallahassee, you may pray for me.

No matter! It's still the greatest. Now, put this thing to bed. :P

First, C.B., I too was a composer-child product of the 60's and I used vellum and ink through the mid-80's. I then used the Mark of the Unicorn's "Professional Composer" which eventually morphed into "Mosaics". I am about to receive in the mail "Sibelius" which I just upgraded to from "Mosaics" any ...

I have a ton of Hindemith. He's a favorite composer of mine.

I listened to this work (the composer conducted/NY Phil) on Memorial Day (posted here at CMG under the "What Are You Listening to?" thread).

It's not my favorite Hindemth by a long shot. Dull in comparison to many other works.

MISCELLANY

May 5th was not a Sunday!

I met Rochberg briefly in the early 70's. He was quite a gentleman.

My mother currently lives in Newtown Square and spent some not so nice days in the Bryn Mawr Hospital; which by the way is not a very large facility.

In honor of Memorial Day, I chose one big work that reflects on such a topic:

Hindemith - A Requiem For Those We Love: "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd" (composer/NYPhil/Odyssey LP)

FYE, at least around here, isn't a place that anyone goes to for classical discs. Hey, you'll get no argument out of me Ralph, but when your wife demands to go to an out-of-town mall and then tells you when you get there that you're on your own for the next three hours, suddenly "FYE" looks good en...

I too have the Finlandia disc that contains Shadows & the 4th symphony (plus a nice cello concerto too).

Sallinen is definitely a good composer who people need to hear.

I was in a mall store yesteday in Montgomery, specifically a music chain called "FYE". What few Naxos they had were all marked at $9.99. Now you know they had most or all of those already sitting in their bins when Naxos officially went up. So you also know the store jacked up the price once they re...

The "Oehms" label picked up the Skrowaczewski Arte Nova Bruckner symphonies CDs which were/are pricier than the original Arte Nova.

Anybody know if the resurrected Arte Nova will get them back from Oehms?
