It is? :? I don't know... I don't like same-approach-for-all. Sure, OK, we need some kind of logo or whatever that easily distinguished one record label from the other, but same typeface for all CDs — no. And, by the way, I think it's becoming terribly overused (Gill Sans). It's a classic BBC font and I like it very, very much, but all this is beginning to ruin it for me.
Chalkperson wrote:I gave it all up after I used to wake up in the middle of the night worrying if something should be a Serif or Sans Serif typeface...
 That's a funny tale. Typography is great.

Does your studio do posters/covers, stuff like that? I think I asked you once: you have a person who chooses the typeface if needed?

It was one of the first discs I recommended to him, I don't remember the others but they were much more mainstream, he keeps trying, maybe he likes it by now...

I have two recordings, this one and Boulez and the Swingle Singers on Erato, I prefer Eotvos...

A little tongue-in-cheek, in the impudence of my using so familiar a form. Conversationally in Russian, one politely addresses (or refers to) someone by the first name and patronymic (the middle name in Russian is always derived from the name of the father).

Well, you're missing the letter ch in the first word (which is also, BTW, the final letter in the name Shostakovich, Шостакович). And while you are correct in having identified the penultimate letter in each word as g, this is one of the (comparatively few) Russian orthographic anomalies. In the singular genitive case (for masculine or neuter nouns), the г in the inflected endings -его and -ого is actually pronounced v, not g.

(And there I may have confused you typographically, because г (Roman typeface) and г (Italic typeface) are the same letter . . . .)

Cheers,
~Karl

Dallapicola:
Vol de Nuit, opera in one act based on Antoine de St. Exupéry (1933/1935) (about 57:00). A work first performed nearly 10 years ago, on 12 June 1999. Some very good musical episodes, including his flight into an Andean storm, the terrible anguish felt by his recently wed wife, the initial panic of being lost in a plane that is running out of fuel, and the last, peaceful moments of his death.

Casella:
Serenade, for a small orchestra, op. 46bis (1930).
In the eyes of those lovers of perfection, a work is never finished—a word that for them has no sense—but abandoned....(Paul Valéry)

Charles Ives

Psalm 54, for chorus
Psalm 67, for chorus
Psalm 90, for chorus, bells & organ
Psalm 135, for chorus, brass, organ & percussion

Very modern sounding choral music but ...when? 1890s, 1900 or 1923?!!

That is the unanswered question!

"Music embodies feeling without forcing it to contend and
combine with thought, as it is forced in most arts and
especially in the art of words. If music has one advantage
over the other media through which a person can represent
the impressions of the soul, it owes this to its supreme
capacity to make each inner impulse audible without the
assistance of reason...Music presents at once the intensity
and the expression of feeling. It is the embodied and
intelligible essence of feeling, capable of being apprehended
by our senses. It permeates them like a dart, like a ray, like
a mist, like a spirit, and fills our soul."
