This is a chamber work I wrote a few years ago for Harp and Flute.

Hope you enjoy it,

Saul

Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,
To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak.
I've read, that things inanimate have mov'd,
And, as with living Souls, have been inform'd,
By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound.

--William Congreve--"The Mourning Bride"

Well done, Saul. Very, very well done.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

So does that mean you want to transcribe it to the organ?

It is the most famous misquoted poem in all of literature, and you are very welcome. As for Chalky, it would in fact make a pretty good organ piece for, say, a prelude to a service. I suppose I would have to fabricate a spiriitually meaningful alternative title.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Actually John, my name is spelt Chalkie...

Given your praise for his compositional abilities, Saul should feel very proud of himself or 'chuffed' as we say in the UK...

After all, your comment proves that it IS all about the music...I myself thought it a little too cheezy for my taste...

Right, and Saul's real name is Chanukah.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Chuffed is an English phrase that means, for example ''to be proud of oneself" it's origin is that of a Robin Red Breast, a bird that puffs out it's chest, or chuff's it'...

On Suday he had this to say about you...
None of this would have started if I hadn't made a possibly ill-advised flippant response to Saul, a known schnook and possible schlemiel if not a schlemazel whom I usually ignore.
Given his insult, the fact he genuinely liked your music proves that music IS the important thing...

Well, as usual you know better than me...but it is Saul's surname that is different, not his christian name...go ask the Dept Of Immigration or the Dept of Homeland Security, they will indeed confirm that my name is Chalkie...

Saul is not exactly the most mainstream poster we will ever have, but I hope he understood that my pseudo-Yiddish remark was facetious. And music IS what makes the difference.

Here is how Leo Rosten defined the difference between a sclemiel and a schlemazel: A schlemiel is somone who dumps hot soup on someone's lap; a schlemazel (literally bad-luck guy) is the one who gets the soup dumped on him. Only Saul knows which, if either, he might be. :)

How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank.
Here will we sit, and let the sounds of music
Creep in our ears; soft stillness, and the night
Become the touches of sweet harmony.

--Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice, Lorenzo, a gentile, to Jessica, a "Jewess"

As I mentioned elsewhere, I genuinely need to look up many of the words you use, and when checking out those three S words, I did not look up the Yiddish word for facetious...humour is such an essential ingredient in life, but sometimes it can need a little deciphering...

bottom line, we were both complimenting him, I don't use the word 'chuffed' that often, it is for special occasions, like this one for example...

Is this some kind of Sign languege?
