FLASH!!!! News About Jbuck

Post by Ralph » Wed Oct 31, 2007 10:33 am

I just got off the phone with John. He is in Glen Falls Hospital and has been moved from the ICU to a regular unit. He anticipates at least one week in the hospital followed by in-patient rehab. I'm sure he'll come out of this okay but he's understandably stressed. He WELCOMES phone calls from CMG regulars - his current number is 518-926-4504. If his number changes because of room shift I'll update you.

Please give him a call. He has family nearby but I know how much it means to be in contact with friends who share the same interests.

Thank you, Ralph. Very good news. I'll wait a few days before I call him to ensure that I do not add to a potential flood of telephone calls today.
cheers

I just had a nice call with Jbuck ... he seems to be recovering nicely, and is in good spirits. I told him we all missed him and hoped he would be back with us soon.

Ralph,
Since John had dropped right off the radar - for at least a week now, and only one message in three weeks - I'm curious if there's a story as to how you found where he was?

I will also call in a few days.

Response to chalkie's post, now gone, but I'll leave this one ...

Just for the heck of it, I had tried googling Stony Creek, NY and got a local flower shop with a list of hospitals they deliver to. But there were too many so I dropped the trail.

But perhaps a very simple way to work around this problem, for anyone reading this, is to use a 'buddy' system. Leave your real name and contact information with one other (trusted) person on the board. Then if you lose contact with the board, contact can still be made. (And if you live alone, I don't want to mention this, but none of us are immune, next of kin contact information would also be useful.)

I'm going to do this, and also cc. the system administrator. It's nice to know what happens to people. Even if it's only 'Quit board in a hissy fit'.

I too tried to find John in Stony Creek, but failed. I think Henry has the right idea, John was in Hospital and we were all justifiably worried about him, but because we all contribute to this Forum Virtually none of us knew how to get a hold of him, I think all of us that are willing should follow Henry's lead and send the Administrators our details, and a trusted fellow member...John has probably never had so many phone calls, i'm going to try a little later to talk to him and send him an i-Pod full of the three B's to cheer him up if he does not already have one...

i-Tunes has...the Sinfonias, Ovid's Metamorpheses and the Double Bass Concertos, I own a couple of CD's but they are still in bankers boxes awaiting digitizing...and on another note I spent a couple of weeks in Glen Falls back in 1988 when The Who rehearsed there for their tour...

I just spoke to John, he's getting a lot of calls and is most grateful to receive our good wishes, I bought him an i-pod and will spend the rest of the night transferring 250 albums over for him, given his posts I think I have a good idea of what he likes, he sounds as well as can be expected and is pleased to hear how many of us are thinking about him...they move him around quite a bit but if we can get a number for the Hospital i'm sure we can keep tabs on him, at the moment he is in Tower 3 Room 3...

I just spoke with John (12:40PM) and his tests are coming back showing some progress. He can't eat solid food yet but is eating fruit. He told me that visitors, including his father, have remarked that he's looking better so that's good news.

It would be inopportune to phone him, being I'm new here and without knowledge of his time zone in the US, but good to hear he's all right and getting well again.

I called John this afternoon, about 6 ET, he is getting better, baby steps, he said. We had a laugh -- I asked for John, he thought I said I was John and wanted to know my last name. (Heaps of credit to years of smoking). He seemed so pleased to hear from everyone.

I've tried unsuccessfully to reach him a couple times over the weekend, including just now. If anyone talks to him in the next day or two, please pass along my best wishes and let him know I'm thinking of him.

Thanks.

I just spoke with John (11:05AM). He's doing better but his stay in the hospital will continue until certain test levels are reached. He sounded much better. His father was with him and he expects his sister to be there again in a few days too.

He's very grateful for the phone calls and support from posters here.

Just talked again with John, who was enjoying a visit from a cousin, and feels much better. He's happy to know he's the number three poster here, and enjoys very much listening to the music Chalkie sent him.

I received a PM this morning from John's sister thanking me for sending him an i-Pod and telling me that he is feeling much better, I spoke to him briefly last week and he sounded a lot better than previously...I had sent him exactly 4,000 'Songs' on the i-Pod, everything by his beloved Bach, including 37 cd's of Cantata's and a complete set of Helmut Walcha's readings of the Harpschord and Organ Music, everything by Beethoven and Brahms, lots of Early Music and all of Wagner too and surprisingly Puccini...I must admit it was a bit of a daunting task, given how much music he claims is inferior but he was very receptive to everything I offered, he will have to stay at the Hospital for a little more time until certain benchmarks are reached in his recovery process, I have to say I do miss his posts and I think his Hospitalisation has lowered the reply count on many threads, and lowered many peoples blood pressure too...also I noticed in the PM that his Signature Photo has been changed to Albert Einstein, playing a Violin no less, that is for sure a sign that he is getting better... :D

10:10AM, Tuesday. Just had a long chat with John. His doctor hopes to spring him from the hospital by Friday but he must go to a rehab facility to get his strength back. Clinically, his numbers look better every day. He's grateful for all the concern of CMGers and he feels there's a 50/50 chance he can make the big meet-up in NYC in February.

Ralph, please tell John that he needs to make the chances he can come to the meetup a little bit closer to 100%. Tell him I'm coming all the way from New Orleans to meet him (and the other CMGers who will be there)!!!

He very much wants to attend - the issue is purely medical. I've been there and I understand how hard it is to plan.

I understand how it is when one is seriously out of commission. :(
Maybe if John is not able to attend, we can storm his rehab facility (or his home, poor bloke) en masse. :)

Sunday, 11:30AM:

I just spoke with John. He's still in Glen Falls Hospital. The chemistry is good meaning that his body is recovering but he's still weak and they haven't set a firm date to move him to a rehab facility.

He welcomes calls - his current number is 518-926-4543.

As before, he expressed his gratitude that so many CMGers are concerned about him and he really hopes he'll make the February get-together in the city. It's a major goal for John.

GREAT NEWS!I just got off the phone with John. He is just about to be discharged from the hospital. Because it's not a simple process, it may take another day or two before they actually spring him - but he sounds great and is feeling well.

I told him that Lance is waiting for him to bring the number of posts back up. He thought that by Friday he should be able to be back on CMG and get back into posting, if gradually. I suppose there will be a time of adjustment betweeen being in the hospital and being free to move around, but he hopes to be with us in February. Good news indeed!
