Penderecki Eighth Symphony on Naxos

Post by Modernistfan » Sat Dec 01, 2007 11:53 am

The world premiere recording of the Penderecki Eighth Symphony is scheduled for release on Naxos in January. Like his Seventh Symphony, also out on Naxos, the Eighth Symphony is a choral work; it is based on nineteenth- and twentieth-century German poetry. The work is performed by soloists, the Warsaw National Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, all conducted by the always-reliable Antoni Wit.

The disc, Naxos 8.570450, also includes two shorter choral works by Penderecki, "Dies Irae" (written to mark the unveiling of a monument at Auschwitz) and "Aus den Psalmen Davids."

This series has been critically very well received, and this looks like another winner from Naxos.

I've heard this is just Part 1 of what he intends for his 8th symphony. The whole work, when complete, is supposed to be 80-90 minutes long.

Or so I've heard.
Black lives matter.

If I were him I'd finish the 6th symphony first.
Black lives matter.

Caro amico Gigio,

Ich ever fear post photos...even of composers, but sometimes a
razzia of topograms is good for a while...ever can be deleted, Ich
hope, if they are "offensive" as the Naked Haitink Thread
