Who plays what?
Who plays what?
I know that Lance, Donald, Teresa, Saul play the piano. Any other pianist?
Karl plays the clarinet. Heck plays the bassoon (is that correct?).
John plays the organ. Living_stradivarius plays the violin.
IcedNote, if I recall, is a guitarist.
Any classical singers?
Who else is a musician to the extent that you could perform a complete work after a little practice?
Any cellist? Trumpet, horn, saxophone, percussion players....?

Re: Who plays what?
I'm glad someone asked this question. I've always wondered who here was practising regularly. I'm a pianist and play often in masterclasses/concerts. I continue to study, with John Covelli and Lawrence Pitchko of Toronto (who was a student of Curzio and Kentner). I love getting excited with another musician about some technical or interpretative idea. Another pair of ears helps too, and Lance has two of the best! I'm just finishing a final draft of a narrative-fictional account of an ideal "Conservatory", full of pedagogical ideas from masterclasses by the giants of our time. Hope this isn't too long a post for a simple question? Sue

Re: Who plays what?
I played many times under John Covelli in the Binghamton Philharmonic. In fact the first time I met Lance, John Covelli was with him.
Black lives matter.

I'm a classical guitarist.

Re: Who plays what?
I used to be a freelance horn player. I have played in many orchestras,
concert bands, opera companies, and chamber ensembles, and studied horn with
William Purvis of the Orpheus chamber orchestra.
I have played under such well-known conductors as Maurice Peress, Joann Falletta,
Arthur Weisberg and Dalia Atlas among others. I have auditioned with no success
for orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Washington National and
New Jersey symphony etc. I am no longer active.

Re: Who plays what?
Amateur pianist, slowly working my way through The Well-Tempered Clavier, among other things.
Re: Who plays what?
Amateur euphonium player. I also dabble on trumpet. But I haven't picked up either in months. I used to play in a fine community band for about 15 years. I'd like to get back to playing, if only for church. I wish someone would transcribe some Bach for Euphonium. I'll play some WTC or Cello Suites sometimes (either as record/compact disc), and wish I could just go at it, despite the probable difficulty involved.

Good music is that which falls upon the ear with ease, and quits the memory with difficulty.

Sorry, man. I think I ingested too much mercury while living at camp this summer. I thought to myself, "Hey, if the loons do it every day why can't I eat fish too!" Apparently, this has messed up my perception of nature, community and society.Wallingford wrote:Wow....I thought you'd-a known by now I'm a pianist (got a Bachelor's in that).piston wrote:I know that Lance, Donald, Teresa, Saul play the piano. Do you still play piano on a daily basis?

Re: Who plays what?
I play the chromatic harmonica, an instrument which shares the status of one of my musical idols, Anton Rubenstein, of being generally overlooked in the classical music world.
Its a sorry state indeed. Third World Syndrome. Debussy and Ravel would have enjoyed composing for harmonica. And so would Puccini if he had lived a little later and not been so busy earning tons of money and fame writing opera arias.
I compose short pieces for solo harmonica, typically 2-4 minutes in length and am working on completing my first studio CD recording.

Yes, I have Tommy Reilly's recording of RVW's Romance made about 20 years ago. Robert Bonfiglio also plays the piece.anasazi wrote:Are you familiar with the RVW Ronance for Harmonica and orchestra?Cyril Ignatius wrote:I play the chromatic harmonica, an instrument which shares the status of one of my musical idols, Anton Rubenstein, of being generally overlooked in the classical music world.

Some of my favorites are the Concerto for Harmonica and Orchestra by Michael Spivakovsky, and two shorter pieces for harmonica and orchestra by Malcolm Arnold and Robert Farnon, respectively.
