I agree, and believe me I am not that keen on religious music but Weil and Tafelmusik are really special.

In the U.S., the tooth fairy levies a 0.1% excise tax on the sale of toothpaste and toothbrushes. This is a terrible way to do it, because falling sales of toothpaste are correlated with increased tooth loss, and greater outlays by the tooth fairy industry. After the gingivitis crisis of the 70's the tooth fairy administration has used advanced financial instruments to limit exposure to dental fluctuations.

I heard Nakamatsu and Manasse perform together a year or two ago, and was tremendously impressed by both of them. But Woelfl???? That name I've never heard before! Thanks for the tip.

This afternoon, I picked up a copy of the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart & Sudfunkchor, Neville Marriner recording of Haydn's Creation:

Nørgård: Symphony No. 3, Concerto in due tempi

Chandos

My first venture into Norgard's music, courtesy the leftover credits that I discovered in my eMusic account. Looking forward to digging into this 'disc', which has received top-notch reviews at Amazon.

Seán, I hope you have Sir Thomas Beecham's EMI discs of the London symphonies, too! His are kind of a paradigm amongst recordings.

Four chamber works from the 1950s that became cornerstones of the avant-garde,
each illustrating a new phase in Stockhausen's former work.

REFRAIN for piano, celesta, and percussion (11:52)
ZEITMASZE for five woodwinds (12:47)
SCHLAGTRIO for piano and percussion (15:11)

ensemble recherche / conductor: Rupert Huber
booklet writer: Richard Toop

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on that, they are stodgy and old fashioned readings that have not lasted well over time, George Szell's Haydn Set is one that Sean should get next, IMHO of course...

Well gentlemen now you have me in a quandry. I had both sets in my hot little hand yesterday but bought the Marriner's Haydn Creation disc instead. I probably would be inclined to buy the Szell as I like almost everything that the Hungarian maestro did, do you concur Lance?

I'm sure the Szell is good, if is anything like his Mozart. Not complete, but I've enjoyed the Fey/Heidelberg recordings on Hanssler.

Absolutely, a wonderful series of discs, but, at full price, I was commenting on Szell vs Beecham because of the cost, Fey's are like a breath of fresh air when it comes to Haydn... :D
