Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Yule. . .whatever you celebrate in these dark days, I hope it is joyous. And here's my Christmas card to all:

Merry Christmas to all!

Eartha Kitt, international symbol of elegance and sensuality, in Santa Baby, with a couple of modern interpolations. She was an original, so turn your volume up.

A Merry Crimbo to all...
Etymology...

The OED cites the first printed usage to 1928. They credit John Lennon's 1963 usage in a Beatles' Fan Club Christmas single as the first recorded use of the variant form Crimble.

Frohe Weihnachten! (Merry Christmas) to all CMGers. One of the great things about this time of year is the fine t.v. and radio programming! Just listened and watched Beethoven's Violin Concerto and Schumann's Second Symphony!

Merry listening to ALL!!

Awww, no. Surely you've had apple crimble?

It's almost the same as apple crumble but you pour lighter-fuel on and set fire to it, finally snuffing it with a Father Christmas hat and eating the cinders/crisps.

No?

Wonderful! Corlyss, we may not agree on much politically, but on the subject of Eartha Kitt, we are united--she was terrific! What year was this video? She was so young, and yet so perfectly assured. There she is, unabashedly sensual, unashamedly sexual, and not the least bit cheap. And what a sense of timing. . .

So long as we agree on the important things . . .

Wiki says the hit was in 1953 and one youtube tag refers to a revue, New Faces of 1952. I'm sure I heard her before that song became a hit, in songs like C'est si bon and Love for Sale (a really strange song to become popular when you think about the lyrics). In pre-TV days we spent a lot of time on the road with the radio on - after dinner and Sunday drives were family traditions until my dad died. I remember most of these old artists from riding in the car listening to the radio. I always perked up to the sound of her atypical smoky sultry voice. Of course, at 5 or 6 who knows from sultry? I just liked the sound of it. Funny the things one remembers.

Somehow, even at 5 or 6, one understands sultry. I don't know how, but I'm pretty sure it's true.
