...You might want to forget them.

The Westminster were familiar to me.

Some of the comments are pretty funny. http://pinterest.com/classicalkusc/wors ... overs-ever

London Records (the American brand for English Decca) went through a bad patch of jacket design in the 1950s, though not on the Westminster scale:

You didn't even have either of my two favorites.

One was a recording of Handel's Water Music with a picture of a faucet running in a sink in what appeared to be a working class flat.

The other was an LP which contained Hermann Scherchen recordings of Haydn's "Farewell" and "Military" Symphonies which featured a picture of a sailor kissing his girlfriend goodbye in the back seat of a Volkswagen Beetle.

The Karajan Tod und Verklärung cover doesn't belong there, that was one of a series of classic Karajan/DGG covers from the 1970s.

One Karajan cover that does belong in the collection is the famous EMI Oistrakh-Rostropovich-Richter-Karajan recording of Beethoven's Triple Concerto (c.1973). With the conductor sulking on the piano bench and the three Russians broadly smiling behind him, it appears that they've either shared a very rude story about Germans or perhaps reminded him of Stalingrad or Kursk.

Does anyone recall a 1960s vintage CBS cover of a Beethoven piano concerto, I think Glenn Gould was the soloist, which had a drawing of two musicians driving a baker's truck? I've tried google images, but in vain!

And I remember one of a composer's head split open and a lot of notes streaming out, but nothing else about the album. Frustrating, isn't it? :)

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Richter told Bruno Monsaingeon that "Karajan sat there showing off while we stood there grinning like idiots." (Karajan had refused a further take requested by Richter because it was time for the photo.)
