One wonders, is there anything in EITHER of these two new LIVING STEREO boxes that hasn't heretofore been issued on CD?

Actually, a lot of it was in the Reiner and Rubinstein boxes. However, when I ordered it the price actually went down when they removed the VAT, and shipping was only a few dollars to taiwan. I'll give the extra discs away and still consider it a great bargain and be very happy.

Another tip: Get in the habit of checking amazon.ca. The shipping might be lower than from England, and the boxes are significantly less than amazon.com. For example this box is $193.36 on amazon.com, and $116.20 on amazon.ca.
You're also getting around a 10% premium on the US dollar at the moment, which will probably cover your shipping.
We're also seeing these issues released in Canada before the US. All of which is a treat from my perspective, having found the exact opposite situation on price and release date generally over the years.

The really wonderful Munch Berlioz Romeo and Juliet has never had wide release on CD in the US. I have it on RCA Navigator and the mastering left a lot to be desired.
