Sensational, but Theodor Adorno? :? If you want a critic/aesthetician who was also a composer, here is Alexis Romand-Manuel having tea with someone or other.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Composers doing yard work: Honegger, Copland, Mahler, etc., including a composer with his chainsaw!

In the eyes of those lovers of perfection, a work is never finished—a word that for them has no sense—but abandoned....(Paul Valéry)

I mow the lawn and rake the leaves. Why am I not a famous composer too? :)

"La Monte Young realizing it’s time to start weeding again"--there's the composer for me! Regards, Len :(

I am sure that the card game that Richard Strauss was playing was a very popular German game named "Skat." This might be regarded as an extremely souped-up version of pinochle and was extremely popular in Germany and, to some extent, in German-American communities in the United States. It was Strauss's favorite game and figures in his opera "Intermezzo."

Exactly why Puccini's La fanciulla del West trumps Strauss's opera--even with Renee Fleming starring! Regards, Len :)

So, I know I'm a bit late on this one, but I thought it would be worth mentioning that that picture of Stockhausen and Cage in a plane made my day. Cracks me up!
Du sollst schlechte Compositionen weder spielen, noch, wenn du nicht dazu gezwungen bist, sie anhören.

Ken, it is great to hear from you.
