Thanks to the generosity of two dear friends, I was gifted this set for my birthday and have been listening with awe at these recordings.
What strikes me as particularly significant is Horowitz's consistency over many years of live performances, an amazing feat. His artistry clearly is not overhyped and the breadth of his repertoire is outstanding.
I certainly recommend this wonderful set to anyone who wants to listen to a great pianist's display of what a keyboard superstar is all about.

You're most welcome, friend. I've also been listening to this set recently as well, and agree with your comments. Horowitz during the decades covered in the set (1940's-1970's) did show amazing consistency and discipline. The restorations of the Private Collection recordings from the late 1940's are particularly fine, IMHO. This set is a great issue, and should be warmly welcomed into the collections of all here (with the exception of Chalkie, of course......

I too received that set as a gift. I haven't listened to every disc yet, but so far, the Barber Sonata takes the cake for intensity! I'm also thrilled to have his televised recital on DVD.
