Based on the excerpt below, it is not the revelation to me that Atys was, but it is certainly not awful. I'm sure Len and Sue will get great pleasure from it, and so would I if I could make it. Campra may be most famous (certainly so among organists) for the organ arrangement of the Rigaudon from his opera Idomenée, which is often used as entry or exit music for weddings and other common ceremonial occasions.

When I was in Germany, a contingent of DoDDS teachers including the Grande Superintendente attended the Carnival of Venice every year. Once I saw a Power-Point slide show of their (truly extraordinary and authentic) costumes. The problem with the Carnival, as reported to me, is that it takes place in cool if not cold weather, the main purpose is to stand outdoors to be seen for approximately twelve hours straight if not longer, and one has to put up with anachronistic things like cigarette breaks from people dressed in 18th century costume and mask. (Then don't get me started on what I've heard about Oktoberfest from people who have been there.)

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

My goodness, that is when I am in New York. I'll add that to my list - just have to check what I've already booked, which is quite a bit.
I've seen Christie and his group a couple of times at Melbourne Festival, including last year - superb.

Hi Len

Sorry, just popped in on my way to bed! I will reveal all very shortly. I have spent a lot of money, and do not regret any of it (yet) - including Les Arts Florissants on April 14. As I said, I've seen them twice, and was knocked out both times.
