I heard the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform Davies' "An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise" with Runnicles conducting - and fell in love with the piece the first time I heard it in Atlanta. Naturally, I had to get a couple of recordings, Runnicles and the ASO on Telarc and two with Davies himself conducting. One of my favourite 20th century pieces! May Davies R.I.P.

I don't think I've ever heard any of his music-don't even know where to begin with him? I see that work is out there on youtube! Regards, Len

Did you skip "Kommilitonen!" at Juilliard a few years ago? That was his last opera.

It's not typical of his best-known works, "Eight Songs for a Mad King" and "The Lighthouse" and some others. These are remarkable short pieces worth hearing if you can.

Len, If you have to start somewhere after 'An Orkney Wedding With Sunrise', try the fascinating, but challenging 7th Symphony. The orchestration is terrific and the invention is superb. Happy listening my friend.
