Whatever happened to our violinist friend ...
... the one from England? I haven't seen nor heard from him in a long time. I can't think of his name or sign-on name at the moment. How I miss our old friends Agnes Selby, Ralph Stein, Werner Isler, and our founder, Ward Botsford, along with many others.

His screen and real name was Chetinson, though I'm not sure about the spelling. We have lost a number of valued members, and not just to death. I still miss Nigel Wilkinson, who quit because he objected to Corlyss banning some people, even though every one of them at the time deserved to be banned. I miss Larry Rinkel (Alban Berg), whose story also involved Corlyss but is more complicated. I miss the guy whose name I can't remember who had actually performed at Carnegie Hall and quit because he objected to the banning of the execrable Saul. (For everyone I miss, I assure you, there is one or more that I don't.) Some of these people continue on the Good Music Guide, a less-well-moderated site that tolerates a lot of questionable posting. I quit there years ago and have never considered going back.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Ah yes, CHENISTON! Thank you for jogging my memory. There was a friend of Cheniston's, an Asian as I recall, who met Cheniston at one time in England. I'll check about Cheniston. He had a web site and was interested in historical violin recordings. I wonder how many remember another man, Tom Clear, of NYC, who also passed away but issued a number of very special LP recordings remastered from his own personal collection. And yes, I recall Larry Rinkel as well. Think I met him at one of CMG's meetups in NYC at one time.

I found this on the Internet. Click below.
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/li ... ht-3539029
Will try to make contact with him. Since his last venture on these boards, a lot has happened with regard to the release of historical (or new) violin recordings. I will keep you posted if I can find out anything. Love to have him back here.

Completely agree about Good Music Guide which is full of bombastic males who won't tolerate dissent from the group-think mentality. And there is a Beethoven site so poorly moderated that all but a handful of people avoid it now because a troubled troll is given free reign to wreak havoc. He goes quiet and the minute I put my toe in the water out he comes with his verbal assaults, which I'm sure he regards as funny!! Pity the poor individual who needs to belittle others in order to feel important. I've had to change usernames a few times to try and avoid the troll; finally I just gave up (which is what I was supposed to do).jbuck919 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 7:41 pmHis screen and real name was Chetinson, though I'm not sure about the spelling. Thank goodness for CMG, which I find indispensable for musical discussions with intelligent, likeable and well-informed people. I often quote this site to my musical friends in our group.

Hi is Cheniston Roland and he lives in Liverpool. I suspect he's quite elderly now and I know he has had health issues.
If you have a contact, it would be great to see how he's doing, he used to do a weekly podcast but that seems to have stopped some years ago.

WOW! That brings back fond memories. Thank you for placing that photo here. I have gray hair now - you probably wouldn't recognize me! It would be really nice to have another meetup sometime. I dislike driving into NYC now, especially now that my daughter lives in Florida - another good reason to visit NYC and also to visit Academy Records! Over the years I made considerable trips to NYC to see my sister (now in Georgia) and visit the old Goody's for 60% off sales, to see Will Lerner at Music Masters, and visit the Record Hunter and other great stores in the city that are no longer. Indeed, times have changed.

Wow, Len.!! Quite a photo, too long ago to remember when that was.
How about these names from the past ?
Lofstra, piston, Stenka Razin, Heck, Calvin, Bob Zeidler, Pczipott, baldric, tom Dill, A.C Douglas, Junendon, TM Kerch, Scott Morrison, Peter McNally, owlice, opera lover, Perry Tannenbaum, Kwoon Wong and Baldric.
I sure do miss those days and those wonderful folks who made it so much fun to be a music lover.

Re: Whatever happened to our violinist friend ...
I think you mean Slofstra, and Henry Slofstra is one of those who have gone over to the dark side (ha ha), meaning that he still posts a lot on Facebook, often about music. Same with Chalkie, though I haven't seen him even there in a while. I also met you at that meet-up, which now seems so long ago. (For those who don't know, Harris easily takes the prize as the most distinguished-looking member.)

Re: Whatever happened to our violinist friend ...
Please post more pictures as I would love to see these. I have seen some from a few years ago, but there must be more. Where's a picture of Barney from his recent visit to NYC? I can see I'm going to have to visit - possibly on our way home from 3 months in Austria, early next year.

Re: Whatever happened to our violinist friend ...
Agreed! And I have the pleasure of seeing Harris fairly regularly at piano recitals sponsored by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. Next recital: Pierre-Laurent Aimard on March 13, with a program that includes the "Hammerklavier."

Thanks for those pictures, Len. I spotted you and Sue in one of them as well as Lance and the Australian guest.
Re: Whatever happened to our violinist friend ...
After a 50 year relationship with Beethoven this very year, I absolutely love the Beethoven piano sonatas more and more - and the "Hammerklavier" remains very special. Enjoy the recital.Ricordanza wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 6:59 amAgreed! And I have the pleasure of seeing Harris fairly regularly at piano recitals sponsored by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. I remember them well and miss them, too. Plus our good friend, Werner Isler and founder Ward Botsford. So many. I wonder why PISTON doesn't participate any longer? Does anyone know what happened with him?

It's quite possible that I was one of the Baldric's mentioned as it's been an alternative handle of mine in the past. If so I obviously changed it.arepo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2018 11:29 amWow, Len.!! Quite a photo, too long ago to remember when that was.
