Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Two dates make sense for me, since I would like to attend at least one of the meet-ups, and I will not be available August 10 and 11.

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Unfortunately, the day that John F cannot make it is the day that I can. It is an evening performance, and I could not get home in time for Sunday morning.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Since August was brought up only because Lance says he can't make it in July, let's wait for him to pick a date and see if it works. Meanwhile, July 18 will have to go ahead without him.

TWO meet-ups! Leave it to John Francis! A great idea. Please keep me posted.

Lance, we need you to tell us what would be a convenient date or dates for you to join us. If you can, of course. If not, then I expect we'll just have one get-together, in July.

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
It just occurred to me that I can make it for a second meet-up on August 11 after all, if it is lunch. I could still see the last and promising Mostly Mozart Concert on Friday evening and return on Saturday in time for church on Sunday morning. Twice to NYC in two months? Can I stand the cultural strain? Anyway, I am still definite for July 18.

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Yes, I'm still definite for July 18, but am not ruling out lunch for August 11, so luckily we can be flexible with no preference for either date. I must say, Len's choice of restaurant for last year's meet-up with Barney was fine for both Teresa and me, so I'll leave it up to jbuck to decide when.jbuck919 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 5:09 pmIt just occurred to me that I can make it for a second meet-up on August 11 after all, if it is lunch. Brian I think John B said he's still a definite for July 18th but that Aug 11 might make for a second dinner-one consideration for Aug 11th is it's a Sat and that might it harder for us to have the restaurant practically to ourselves like you seem to be able to do on a week day when most people are at work. Regards, Len
Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Yes, Len, I had thought about that too. At any rate, we're still on for July 18th, while August is understood to be still tentative.lennygoran wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 3:20 pmBrian I think John B said he's still a definite for July 18th but that Aug 11 might make for a second dinner-one consideration for Aug 11th is it's a Sat and that might it harder for us to have the restaurant practically to ourselves like you seem to be able to do on a week day when most people are at work. Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
We are still talking about lunch if it's August 11 (or so I assume), so I would have thought that the problem would not be finding a restaurant where there's room for us, but finding one that serves lunch on Saturday. I can't make the executive decision that some still think falls on me unless we solve that problem. Eating at the same place both times, if it is open on Saturday, is not out of the question. Ball's in your court.maestrob wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 9:35 amYes, Len, I had thought about that too. John Sat is a big day for restaurants in NYC-my experience is most restaurants will be open for lunch. Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
I've never been to Pomodoro Rosso on a Saturday, which actually might be more crowded than on a Wednesday. Remember, when we were there last year on a Wednesday with Barney, they even had a special dish for us. Len, why don't you call the restaurant and just ask if their Saturdays are more crowded? I have a hunch that Wednesday might be better for us, with less competition from the Brunch Crowd than on Saturday. When we were there, we had a private room all to ourselves and hardly anyone else in the restaurant @ 2PM.lennygoran wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 6:00 pmJohn Sat is a big day for restaurants in NYC-my experience is most restaurants will be open for lunch. Then if you feel positive about a Saturday meet-up, I also think we should take a poll to see how many people would be available on Aug. 11 for a second meet-up for those who cannot attend on Wednesday. How about it, folks?

If we have the private room, it doesn't matter how crowded the restaurant is except in speed of service. I believe that the menu is long enough to keep people from feeling bored by eating Italian twice in two months.lennygoran wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 6:00 pmJohn Sat is a big day for restaurants in NYC-my experience is most restaurants will be open for lunch. Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Well then go ahead and do it, assuming you are not incurring any financial obligation and that they have a reasonable cancellation policy. I'll do it for all of us if you want me to. As weird as it may feel to be planning back-to-back monthly CMG trips to NYC when I absent myself from said metropolis for years at a time, I can do it, and probably will.lennygoran wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 2:11 pmI called pomodoro and they said that between about 1:30 and 4:30 that private second level space shouldn't be a problem if the reservation was made in advance even on a Sat. Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Thanks, don't worry-no financial obligation is needed and they're flexible on cancelling and/or changes-now we could use a list of definites and possibles.
Off the top of my head definites could be you, John F, Len and Sue, Lance and Steve, Brian and Theresa. Don't know about Larry Finkel, Don I, Garrett-hope people will respond as to their thoughts on this. Who am I missing? Regards, Len

Yes, and the one on the left is Harris, who changed his screen name several times so that I cannot recall just who he most recently is. (One of the former names was, I think, Cliftwood). He has been one of our most distinguished posters also with a history that goes way back, but alas this can also mean "old." I hope he is still around, following this thread, and well enough to join us on one or both occasions.lennygoran wrote: ↑Sun Jun 10, 2018 5:57 amJohn, thanks, yes it is-he's on the right! I'd love to attend but transportation would be a problem, as I'm confined to a wheelchair andmy neurological condition which has made me unable to walk has been getting worse gradually .
Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
Also, while I enjoyed the get together at the Atlantic Grill, it was pretty loud because it was filled with customers and I had some difficulty with conversation because of this . At one of the previous dinners , we had a separate room where there was no difficulty with conversation .

Bob yeah the Atlantic Grill didn't get it done for us-Pomodoro and especially when it's taking place is more private--otoh our spot on the the third short level up does have 2 sets of 3 stairs. Forgive me if I missed it, but do we have a time for July 18th? I want to give Larry the details. I'm about to message him with the date(s) (John F will forgive me for using a noun as a verb ), but is our reservation firm so that we'll all be there at the same time?

I also contacted the person who had the unfortunate screen name "nutjob." It turns out that he and I have lived in the same location in two places out of three (I mean, whoever else here has heard of Wheaton, Maryland?), but he is currently in California so will not be able to join us.
Guess I'd better get on the ball and make my Amtrak reservation.

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
My turn, since I've let poor Lenny bear the burden of so much of this when it was my idea. Yes, we will meet up at 2:00 at Pomodoro Rosso on 229 Columbus Ave. May I add that this is a very big deal for me. First, I don't exactly get to visit the greatest city the world has ever known on a daily basis as a few of you do. Second, I am lacking in the kind of company you provide. If I were not an organist, I would give a limb to have a breakfast club made up of the likes of you, as opposed to what I would have to deal with to be part of one around here.
Kindest regards to all of you in musical friendship,

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
It is not ambiguous at all. My father was stationed at Anderson AFB on Guam when I was 7-8 years old. It is a mixed memory for me, but not for my dear younger sister. Many years later I learned that she was sexually abused by a female teacher at the Catholic school. I know that Aussies are the most traveled people in the world, but, old friend, avoid that small island. It is in typhoon alley, and the worst one to hit in living memory almost cost my family their lives, but maybe that's a story for another time, or for no time at all.

Re: Overdue for a meet-up?
People, I hate to do this to you, since I am the instigator of the event, but it is unlikely that I will be able to join you tomorrow. Yesterday, working in the yard, I put a nail through my foot. It has been attended to properly, but the doctor has advised me to move about as little as possible for a few days. This is not consistent with traveling to Manhattan on a hot summer's day. Fortunately, I made no personal arrangements that have to be cancelled, and I hope that the lack of one person at the restaurant will not set anyone back. I still hold out the hope of seeing you in August. If Len takes pictures, please, may I get a copy? Otherwise I am well and there is no need to worry about me. Even in tiny Stony Creek there are people I can call on if I need help, but mainly what I need to do is keep still.
