David Fray

Post by Len_Z » Thu Jul 19, 2018 4:49 am

I've been hearing very good things about the Chopin, Bach, Mozart and Schubert CDs by David Fray, but since the repertoire he supposedly excels in is quite well represented, I am hesitant and remain, so to speak, on the fence. Anybody heard him play (either live or in studio) and would share an opinion?

Thanks in advance.

The other Len:) :)

I have heard several live solo and concerto radio broadcasts. IMHO, he is playing much " better " now than earlier in his career. Have not acquired any of his cd's in part as have financial limits for works already in my collection.Dont feel heard enough to make a fair qualified assessment , yet, but would suggest you sample a couple recent YT's and watch for appearances on Radio France Musique or elsewhere . If I come across a broadcast, I do usually listen.

Thank you so much for your reply! I have same financial limitations and am also running out of space, thus my doubts.

I've posted this link before. Very interested in Fray and I have these Bach concertos which are the subject of this promotional film: note the filthy look on the violinist sitting at the back of the orchestra in this film!!!

I guess you know David Fray is Muti's son-in-law.

And the Ravel is a special favourite - executed here by two very handsome and talented dudes!!

You'll detect a discernible tremor in David's hands during some of this performance - obviously the result of nervousness.

Thank you, Belle! No, I didn't know he was Muti's son-in-law

That's the beautiful Chiara Muti sitting next to David Fray at the beginning of the film.

Here he is playing Schumann; how I absolutely adore that composer!!
