KUSC's "Top 100" Again

Well, KUSC-FM is running its "Top 100" again and voting is now open. You can make up to five selections, and they may be the same piece or multiple pieces. I have not given up the protest against their boring, blah, wimpy programming, and am using all five selections to write in Stockhausen's "Gruppen." Voting ends April 7, and I shall see if this can get this radical piece on their "Top 100" list along Vivaldi's "Four Seasons," the Pachelbel Canon, and Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik." I invite anyone to join me in trying to upset their expectations. Remember, as they used to say in Boston, "Vote often and early for James Michael Curley!"

This is, again, pretty dispiriting. The only Prokofiev was "Romeo and Juliet," of which they only play small snippets. The only Shostakovich was the waltz from the "Jazz Suite No. 2"; they never bother to play the whole thing in its entirety (apparently, it was used in Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut.") The only Stravinsky was "The Firebird" (again, only played in small snippets). No Bartok, Hindemith, Britten, Walton, Bruckner, or even Richard Strauss. The only Mahler was Symphony No. 1, again, never played in its entirety. Of course, no real contemporary music, unless you want to count Morten Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium" (not really a bad choice). No works by female composers (not even Fanny Mendelssohn or Clara Schumann). Very few works by American composers beyond the obvious or film music. No works by Latin-American composers or any composers of color of any national origin.
Of course, we know where all my votes for Stockhausen's "Gruppen" went (the good news is that I won't wind up in Siberia).
