Post by Rach3 » Wed Jun 12, 2019 8:01 pm

New to me recently:

Jean Absil (1893-1979), Belgium

Piano Concerto No. 1 , Op. 30 (1937)
1. Allegro moderato ma energico
2. Andante
3. Final
André Dumortier, piano
Orchestre National de Belgique / René Defossez
Copied from LP Alpha 5070-F1

Very attractive, I thought. His other 2 PC's are also at YT, but I preferred # 1. Dumortier finished 3rd behind Lympany ( 2nd ) and Gilels ( 1st ) at the inaugural 1938 Ysaye Competition ( later renamed the Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition). The Concerto was written for, a required work at, the 1938 Competition.
