Pianist Sergey Redkin live at 2019 Verbier

Post by Rach3 » Fri Jul 26, 2019 4:43 pm

Pianist Sergey Redkin at Verbier,2019,live video. As I recall, I was impressed with some of his playing at the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition where he placed 3rd to Masleev’s 1st ( I was not impressed by Masleev then, who is also to play later at 2019 Verbier, so we shall see ), I have not heard Redkin since, plus I would not miss this programme, and glad I did not miss it :

Tchaikovsky,”Dumka” , Op.59
Prokofieff, Sonata No.6, Op.82
Pause
Rachmaninoff,Etudes Tableaux, Op.39,complete ( Nos.7 -9 here ! )

Encores: Bagatelles : Kapustin,Op.59,# 9 ; Silvestrov,Op.1,# 1 (gorgeous)

Reminded me how much the 2nd,3rd movs, of this Prokofieff “War” Sonata remind me nonetheless of his “Romeo et Juliet” score, although arguably that another “ war “ . Magnificent Rachmaninoff, makes a case Op.39 is the ultimate solo work of the composer.

How one plays , let alone memorizes, these works, even if playing them since they were 10 ….

VERY impressive here, even in the shadow of Richter. A pianist I will follow.

Yes indeed! I noticed that as well.

Will definitely hear this concert soon, as I missed it the first time. Thanks for reminding us, Rach3!

And may you and yours have a safe and happy Thanksgiving day!

An absolutely stunning recital! Redkin's virtuosity in this repertoire is exceeded only by his amazing depth of expression and maturity. IMHO, this entire program should be issued commercially on DVD if possible so we can have a memento of this magnificent debut.

I notice that Redkin's only commercial recording is of Prokofiev's Fourth Piano Concerto with Gergiev/Maryinsky, but that is available only in a $169 video set of Prokofiev's complete Symphonies & Concertos issued in 2016.

He needs to be signed by a major label immediately, and deserves an international career.

Thanks Rach3 for bringing this up again. :D
