It was announced that the American composer Christopher Rouse, age 70, has passed away. This is a huge loss to American music generally, and particularly to American symphonic music. I am a big fan of his music, and have automatically bought any CD with his music.
His 4th symphony was written in 2013, but before he died he had completed a 6th. His music tends towards dark moods, and the 2nd of this symphony's 2 movements is called "Doloroso". The opening movement is uncharacteristically cheerful.
