Piano sonatas of Franz Lehar

Post by Rach3 » Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:42 pm

Who knew ? Not me.

The 16-17 year old Lehar.Wolf Harden,pianist, CPO-SWR cd :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2uxj7TN3kc ( F major , 23 minutes )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wU6SAi4Q4U ( D minor, 40 minutes ! )

A review : http://www.musicweb-international.com/c ... onatas.htm Lehar played the D minor for Dvorak.

While the last mov. Rondo of the F major is pleasant, the D minor more interesting over-all, although agreed, too long.

I have a four-CD set on CPO [777.639] of which one volume contains piano works played by Wolf Harden, but I didn't realize he was 16- or 17 years old! The other four discs include symphonic works, dances, suites, concertino for violin, etc., et al. This is probably the most comprehensive set of Lehar's music that is around.
