Benjamin Grosvenor at Town Hall NYC
Benjamin Grosvenor at Town Hall NYC
I was wondering if any members went to his recital on 1 December and if so what they thought?

Never saw him in recital - yet hope to. I only know him by all his recordings thus far … and I was impressed.

Hi Philip!
Grosvenor is a much-admired pianist here. Like Lance, I admire him greatly, and would have gone to his Town Hall recital if I had been able. I have several of his CDs, each one very fine IMHO. He's the real deal, in all sorts of repertoire.

I’ve known him and his family personally since 2010. He’s such a lovely guy - as is is partner Heyoon. She’s a very fine violinist too.
He’s the youngest of 5 boys. One of his brother’s, Jonathan, has Down’s syndrome. Benjamin absolutely adores him. And rightly so as Jonathan is a super person!

Well, well! It is a small world indeed. You must be very proud of his success. Please pass on our good wishes. I now have even more of an incentive to buy his recordings.Philip M wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 11:39 amI’ve known him and his family personally since 2010. I have followed Grosvenor enthusiastically for years, have a couple of his recordings.Have not heard the recent Town Hall. His "Dances " cd would be a good place to start.A few years ago, we were to meet him for dinner after his appearance with the Des Moines,Iowa Symphony Orchestra ( Saint - Saens # 2 ), but had to cancel as he was required to attend a post-concert reception hosted by the Orchestra.I keep in touch a bit through a mutual friend in London.
Here Grosvenor plays, and conducts, Bach's keyboard concerto BWV 1056 and Mozart's PC # 9, K.271, with Britten Sinfonia in London recently. I particularly enjoyed the Bach :

There are several YT's. His Proms (2014 ? ) Britten PC is also worth hearing.

I was at that Bach/Mozart concert! I went to see Benjamin backstage afterwards.
