No Tolerance in Canada for Birthday Celebration!
Man arrested for naked Hitler birthday event
Mon Apr 23, 2007 8:28AM EDT
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - A Canadian man has been arrested after he was found walking around naked with a swastika taped to his body to mark Adolf Hitler's birthday, police said on Friday.
Police in Nanaimo, British Columbia, on Canada's Pacific coast, said they were called to the scene by concerned residents, and the man told them he was "honoring Hitler's birthday." He was detained and will undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Hitler was born April 20, 1889.
"Although the swastika symbol causes some concern and is usually associated with hate and the Nazi regime, in this instance this male posed no threat to the community," police said in a news release.

There was a fellow in BC some years ago who kept coming up in the media because he was into the 'true swastika' which he had tattooed all over his body. He felt his mission was to restore the swastika to its previously held symbolic significance, whatever that was. (Hitler actually used a reversed swastika.) Anyway, a doomed and somewhat perverse mission. Similar phenomenom to new age witchcraft: witches aren't really what you think, they're really like .... I don't understand the motivation behind these people. Maybe our social values have gone too far in promulgating individualism, so you get these wannabes going off the deep-end, especially in British Columbia. Everyone wants to be a weirdo and get their 15 minutes of fame.
While I'm on this rant, I also don't understand how the TV camera can turn ordinary people into acting like such idiots. I'm thinking of the Blue Jays games I sometimes attend. When the mascot starts tossing FedEx T-shirts into the crowd; you'd think people were getting gold nuggets. I think that all these behavioural effects are manifestations of the same impulse - many people have no real or abiding sense of themselves and constantly crave attention and are willing to do anything to get it. I could go on ...

The most significant thing about April 20, Adolf Hitler's birthday, when we were little kids and had no idea who he was and what he was doing, was that we had no school on that day. The only good deed that man ever did for me! I imagine today's German kids go to school on that day as they do on any other.
Sounds more like Margaret Trudeau to me.BWV 1080 wrote:Its my understanding that celebrating Hitler's birthday by running around naked with body-painted swastikas on your body is a time-honored Canadian tradition. I remember seeing something about a similarly outfitted Peirre Trudeau leading the annual April 20 parade in Ottowa sometime in the 70's

Yes, but they resent every minute of it.Evelyn Laden wrote:The most significant thing about April 20, Adolf Hitler's birthday, when we were little kids and had no idea who he was and what he was doing, was that we had no school on that day. There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
