Wow! Thanks so much to all of you. This is very nice.

I have to say I had a pretty bad birthday, at least during the day yesterday. I had a root canal in the morning, then I had to have an EMG in the afternoon. That involved getting electric shocks and pin-pricks in my arm. Turns out I have a repetitive stress issue in my elbow that may require surgery.

But the evening featured a lovely dinner with my wife and some relatives who we unexpectedly bumped into outside of the restaurant. So at least the day finished off on a high note. And your kind wishes are also very welcome. I'm glad I saw this. I sometimes overlook the threads at the top.

A couple times, including once at this same restaurant, I've ordered creamed spinach at nice restaurants and have found it to be too rich in terms of how much butter was used even for my taste.

The problem I have most commonly results from resting your elbow on a hard surface repeatedly; like a hard plastic arm-rest on the chair at your work-station, which I'm pretty sure is the cause in my case.

The restaurant is Barclay Prime. It's a steakhouse on Rittenhouse Square that is owned by Stephen Starr, who owns a number of the better restaurants in the area.

I was actually a little disappointed in my ribeye. It had too much salt on it when it arrived at the table. But the various seafood appetizers and vegetable side dishes were fantastic.

The Best Steakhouse in the city. I have been here a few times, and each time the restaurant gets better. Every time I go I need an order of the Kobe sliders and a wedge salad. The blue cheese dressing is sooo good. I usually get a filet, which is always cooked perfectly. Sides I go with the truffle whipped potatoes and the neusche bacon. Wine list is great, the service is amazing. A steak lover will love Barclay Prime.

When it comes to steak houses I prefer the old fashioned decor, however Barclay Prime has done a nice job of offering great food in a modern setting. Regards, Len

You can ignore the "jacket suggested" line. My wife and I were dressed tastefully, but not formally. However, the cousins we bumped into outside who wound up joining us for dinner were in shorts and had no problem. I didn't think they would as I had noticed a couple other people dressed like that the only previous time I had dined there.

Yes, it's a pricey place, but my family generally chips in and gets me Stephen Starr gift cards for my birthday (or for both my wife and me at holiday time), so my wife and I don't spend much, if anything out of pocket when we go to these types of places most of the time.

Great--especially this time of year. A few weeks ago we met a friend for the $29 lunch at one of NYC's most beautiful restaurants, Del Posto. I wore a sports jacket as suggested and it was a hot day but I managed--I should have been a little bolder though because other people came in without jackets and one guy came in wearing jeans! Their lunch special is wonderful and you can get it not anytime--not just during NYC's restaurant week.

Before the CMG dinner on Saturday we were walking around the Time Warner Columbus Circle complex--now they have some fancy spots for sure--they really did a great job with the whole area--it seemed to take forever-- and business was booming--the Whole Foods there is really merchandised beautifully. It's been a while since I've eaten at a really good New York restaurant. A few of the posters from one of the pre-cursors of this board (I think Ralph and I are the only ones left on here) used to get together periodically for a Saturday lunch up there. I know we hit Bouley and Chanterelle.
