A Christmas Olive Branch

Post by jack stowaway » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:15 am

What would other posters think of the idea of extending an olive branch to our members-in-exile, Brendan and Saul?

The forum is noticeably blander for their absence. More civil, perhaps; less controversial, certainly, but blander. I speak as one who has copped a tongue-lashing from both on various occasions.

I also look forward to the day Corlyss and Ralph resume posting. Corlyss, in particular, is missed. Her staunch conservatism and acerbic rejoinders to our left-liberal members lent much-needed spice to the forum.

I've been agitating for civility in these discussions and see some progress in that area. No point reversing that. I do miss Ralph's posts and hope he finds his way back here eventually.

One of them would probably agitate over this thread and argue over why it's a Xmas olive branch and not a Chanukah one.

Not much civility was extended to Cosima. I would hate to
see her leave this board. I learned a lot from her posts and from her
most pleasant remarks.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas.

Regards,
Agnes.

I think you are misunderstanding "Troll the ancient yuletide carol."

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I am also a member in exile.

Since my name wasn't mentioned, I feel slighted but maybe the memory of my former presence has faded into obscurity.

BTW, has anyone done any "recruiting" via PM's to see if we might get a few of
our more like-ably interesting people back where they belong? If not, why not?

I certainly miss Brendan and would enjoy having him back. His contributions were unique and often very informative.

I'd also have no problem with Saul coming back.

But I appear to be in the minority on this.

Then, too, it isn't as if I read every post in the Pub.

Do I miss much, would you say, Barry?

Well if you think that's the reason there hasn't been a groundswell of support for bringing Harris back to the Pub, you apparently do.

I really don't feel qualified to give an opinion here because I still think of myself as very new. Things are a lot more civil since Saul no longer posts. On the other, it's a little less lively as well.

Actually, I was pleading for enlightenment, thinking I might have missed somebody

I like it much more the way it is now. We just don't need people like Saul & Brendan. Who would tolerate them in a face-to-face discussion?
I do look forward to reading Corlyss's trenchant views again.
