So what happened to 97%?
"Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted. That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history."
- Aldous Huxley

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing has happened."
-Winston Churchill

“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one!”
–Charles Mackay

"It doesn't matter how smart you are - if you don't stop and think."

If climate change brings the catastrophic effects that have been predicted - rising sea levels wiping out coastal cities and inhabited islands, rising temperatures causing droughts and famines, etc. etc., then indeed climate change is a greater threat to us all than every terrorist in the world. It's the difference between retail and wholesale disaster and death, between thousands and millions or billions in lives and property. And those who scoff at the comparison are the dumb ones.

Those who don't take seriously the scientific conclusions that the climate is changing at least partly because of what we humans are doing on Earth, and that the change will predictably have these effects, would of course dismiss the comparison. But 195 countries do take the scientists' conclusions seriously enough to meet in Paris this week and try to do something about it.
