The campaign through the eyes of a foreign journalist

Post by Ricordanza » Sat Feb 13, 2016 1:51 pm

As an American, this presidential campaign (particularly on the Republican side) strikes me as bizarre. How must it look to someone from another country? I've often wondered about that. This article from the Washington Post gives one answer to that question. I'd be interested in other reactions, either from CMG members or other "outside" observers of the American scene.

A very interesting article.

Looking at the campaign from Australia, it seems to me that it consists mainly of insults.
I ask myself, is it the person who uses the most foul language who will win the
presidency? I hope not!

Regards,
Agnes.

Yes, it does seem to be getting ugly. I'm not sure why actually.

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing has happened."
-Winston Churchill

“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one!”
–Charles Mackay

"It doesn't matter how smart you are - if you don't stop and think."
-Thomas Sowell

"It's one of the functions of the mainstream news media to fact-check political speech and where there are lies, to reveal them to the voters."
-John F. (of CMG)

Only on the Republican side. The Democratic candidates have been sharply critical of each others' proposals and history, but it hasn't been personal.

No, because it will be Hillary Clinton. :D
