Except the Democrats are conducting a far bigger con, Paul. But that aside:

Someone tell me -- if Donald Trump is a con as Rubio and others assert, i.e. him and his whole campaign is a con, what's the motive? It's certainly not money or a better life. He already had a great life of fame, wealth and privilege. In fact, this should have been Trump's answer to Rubio, because I don't think Rubio would have been able to provide a cogent or credible answer.

And of course Trump's policy positions have to have some flexibility, some wiggle room if he ever hopes to get any significant amount of them implemented through congress. Anyone with a brain ought to know there's no way he's going to get everything he wants or is campaigning on. There will have to be at least some give and take.

Isn't it obvious? Sheer vanity. Trump believes he's the greatest man in the world, in every way, and running for president - being president - provides a showcase for his greatness, in his own mind.

I agree he has a very big ego, but pretty much anyone who runs for President does. Certainly Obama's ego, for example, is no smaller. But I do believe that he believes he can do the best job and wants to do the best job. I guess my point is, if he's elected he will want to be known as a highly successful, well liked and respected President by a substantial majority of the country. If he's conducting a con and plans to break all these promises and policy positions of his, that outcome will not be achieved and his image will be forever tarnished.

So to me, it just doesn't make sense that it's all a big con. Though as I said, I certainly don't expect him to be able to implement his whole platform of policy positions, and that there will have to be some compromise and some flexibility. I also think the majority of his supporters know this. Frankly, if he can just get the wall built and secure the border with increased patrol, get rid of all the business crippling regulations by the EPA and Obamacare, lower corporate taxes, and get the offshore corporate money back into the country, it would be a great success.
