He was so funny that people forget Moore was an accomplished classical musician. Just as they forget that Jonathan Miller, Moore's co-conspirator in Beyond the Fringe, was and is a medical doctor and an inspired opera producer/director. Talented bunch, that.

How much I enjoyed seeing Moore in these clips. The Beethoven one was especially fine. Whatever did Dudley Moore die from, anybody know? Seems I remember when it happened but can't recall the details. Anybody ever read his book, Off-beat: My World of Music?

Lance, Moore died of progressive supranuclear palsy, whatever that is. And yes, I have a copy of his book on my shelf.
He was an amazing man.

I remember seeing him play some Gershwin on PBS, just exceptional. I loved him in the movies, starting with "10". Moore was both an actor, a musician, and he wrote a movie score ("Six Weeks"). There is a scene in one of films, a remake, called "Unfaithfully Yours" where Moore is writing the score for his actress wife's latest film. Kind of a fitting turn for Moore who could compose, play piano, yet made his fame as a commedian.
