Do you like Olives?

Do you like Olives?

If so, which colour olives? You see, I like green, but don’t like black.

Just wondering, this is general chat after all!

Welcome to the board BTW

I love all properly prepared olives, which means they are preserved in brine (occasionally oil) and not vinegar. That eliminates emphatically all canned olives.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

There are 2 olives I love. One is a big green with pit, its in a very light brine, not salty at all, a real fruity tasting olive. I'll get the name later. I;'ve seen them in a clear bine, all stay light green color and a slight brown color brine, a few begin to take on a brown color.
The second olive i love is a olive stuffed with sundried tomato. Previously the sundried was too salty, now they've reduced the salt. Unreal flavor.
Both can be found at Whole Foods, but I know your local italian deli has them also.
I also do not like any kind of black olives.
Salad: thin sliced romane heart/french sheep feta/thin sliced red bell peper/thin sliced portabello mushroom/thin sliced red onion/thin sliced southern louisiana creole tomato/YOU CAN ALSO DICE UP THE THIN SLICES OF VEGGIES (not the lettuce), I like the whole foods blue cheese dressing.....lets see what are we missing....the olives of course :-)

A salad without black olives is like a day without listening to Dittersdorf.

The only time I eat them is if they're part of a pizza topping.

The best olives are the big, black, Greek Kalamata olives. Lots of times, its good to have a salad of just the olives, tomatoes, red onion, feta cheese, oil and vinegar dressing, and some chopped parsley overall.

I am not terribly fond of olives in just any salad, but the above one, with 5 parts olive oil to 1 part balsamic vinegar, is good. Oh, and its good to prepare the balsamic vinegar by keeping a long stalk of tarragon steeping in it for 3 months or so before use.

I love Kalamata olives, especially on pizza or as part of a Greek salad, as Reblem mentioned. I think Kalamatas are my favorite, but I like some varieties of green olives too--particularly if they are stuffed with either garlic cloves or almonds.

Yum. One of my favorite meals. I like little black olives and big black olives. John can have my share of green olives.

BTW, John, good to see you made it across the pond and are safely in the wilds of NY.

Matt, you can post on any topic here. I tend to focus on politics because it's about all I read about day in and day out. But really I'm always up for a rippin' good discussion of beers and the American songbook, and I think others would be grateful for a break from the politics. So fear not. Post away.

Of course. A Martini just isn't the same without one.

Greek olives? I have tried. So many times. One bite, and they are spat out right then and there.

My kids used to put a black olive on each finger and eat them one after another. Yuck.

Funny about personal tastes.

Olive oil is an entirely different matter :)

A particularly unhealthy cold cut I love is olive loaf. I have it occasionally as a sandwich with American cheese.

I remember a pimiento loaf, with sliced green olives w/pimiento -- is that the same thing you had? I cringed when Mom brought it home.
