It is not Bastille Day just yet and I am the tiniest bit miffed that someone got priority, because I intended to remember the real meaning of July 14 myself after last year's self-promotional campaign.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Ralph ... one of our MOST DISTINGUISHED and most productive members—and New York City host—of CMG, the best birthday ever on the 14th. May you find boxes and boxes of new CDs that will give you many more years of great listening pleasure! You are a prince!

Happy early birthday wishes, Ralph! Thank you for your fine posts -- many of which have broadened my classical music perspectives -- and thank you as well for introducing me to Dittersdorf, whose name now graces my record collection.

Amen! Where would we be without him? One of the most urbane, informative, and gracious folks we have here. We are damned lucky to have him.Lance wrote:Ralph ... one of our MOST DISTINGUISHED and most productive members—and New York City host—of CMG, the best birthday ever on the 14th. I thought I'd wait for the actual date - but what the heck, Ralph, why not have all the good wishes you can, as soon as you can?
And here I go agreeing with Corlyss again - how can that be? See what effect you have, Ralph?
So here's wishing us at CMG many more years of Ralph - level headed, knowledgeale, and always relevant.
And, hopefully, more times at Lincoln Center, O'Neals - and perhaps Il Sorriso?

Happy birthday, Ralph, but you have to get through Friday the 13th first. Good luck.

You're wishing HIM good luck? I have an interview this morning. The first thing I did wrong was laugh when the lady called and said Friday the 13th. (For the thousandth time, I am not making this up.)RebLem wrote:Happy birthday, Ralph, but you have to get through Friday the 13th first. Good luck.

OK, NOW!
I don't know Ralph well enough to know his feelings on this, but with the US notoriously over-prison-populated, if he wants to meet me for a demolition party at Attica or Dannemora (Sing-Sing will do)....

Our great and brilliant master poster will not understand that this is simply Latin for happy birthday, so here I am to say so.Gary wrote:FELIX SIT NATALIS DIES!

Thanks very much for the kind posts - it definitely made my birthday more fun!
And I was very touched to receive this e-mail this morning:
Dear Professor Stein,
Laura and I wish you the happiest of birthdays. While we are often on opposite sides of an issue your patriotism marks you as a true American. With not that much occupying us these days, Laura and I try to check out CMG at least once a day. We admire how you handle that deracinated crone who co-owns the board, even if she supports my efforts in the War on Terror.
Be well.
God bless America.
