I pinched a used copy of the Harnoncourt Schumann 3 and 4 on Amazon Marketplace for 5 bucks, and I also have an older recording of Schumann 4 (and Schubert 4) with the Berlin Philharmonic. Unfortunately the booklet of the old Berlin recording is defective. It has the right cover but all the pages inside seem to describe a Neal Young album. Does anyone know offhand if the Harnoncourt/Schumann 4/Berlin recording is the original or revised version? (I guess it's likely to be revised version if there is no explicit mention on the cover.)

To piano music from a young Ginastera:
-Danzas Argentinas, op. 2;
-Milonga from Dos Canciones, op. 3;
-Tres Piezas, op. 6;
-Malambo, op. 7;
-Triste, op. 10 (Fournier arrang. for piano and cello);
-Suite de Danzas Criollas, op. 15.

Alberto Portugheis, piano.
(with Ginastera's wife at the cello)

taking a guess, I *think* that is the revised version... the original version with the Ch Orch of Europe (Warner) is rarely played...

A little puzzled at calling a two-movement work, of which the first is an exquisitely long-breathed Largamente, a "divertimento" . . . but whatever the title, this is wonderful music.

Mahler Symphony No.6 in A Minor (Live) (Abbado / B.Phil., DG)

"Music embodies feeling without forcing it to contend and
combine with thought, as it is forced in most arts and
especially in the art of words. If music has one advantage
over the other media through which a person can represent
the impressions of the soul, it owes this to its supreme
capacity to make each inner impulse audible without the
assistance of reason...Music presents at once the intensity
and the expression of feeling. It is the embodied and
intelligible essence of feeling, capable of being apprehended
by our senses. It permeates them like a dart, like a ray, like
a mist, like a spirit, and fills our soul."

Ginastera:
=Doce Preludios Americanos, op. 12, piano (1944)
includes tributes to Juan Jose Castro, Aaron Copland and Villa Lobos
-Piezas Infantiles, piano (1934)
-Four Dances from Estancia, op. 8
-Pampeana, for 'cello and piano, op. 21 (1959).
Portugheis at the piano; Aurora Ginastera at the 'cello.

Du sollst schlechte Compositionen weder spielen, noch, wenn du nicht dazu gezwungen bist, sie anhören.

Ginastera:
-"Cancion al arbor del Olvido" from Two Songs, op. 3 (1938)
with Jose Carreras.
-Cantos del Tucuman, op. 4, for voice, violin, flute, harp and two Indian Cajas (1938), with a semi-professional ensemble...the singer was very good.
-Duo for flute and oboe, op. 13 (1945). Neat little piece.
-Pampeana no. 1, for violin and piano, op. 16 (1947). Quite dissonant at this point in Ginastera's aesthetic development.
-Rondo sobre temas infantiles argentinos, op. 19, piano (1947)
-String quartet no. 1, op. 20 (1948). His first "major work"?

1956, Ken, which places it a little beyond the mid-point in his career. It's not unlike his other overtures (Scapino & Portsmith Point) in that it's lively, sassy and a tiny bit brassy with several tunes that keep reappearing but always altered through re-orchestrations and re-harmonizations. It's good stuff.
