Malcolm X the Scumbag

Post by SaulChanukah » Sun Apr 25, 2010 9:11 pm

From Wikipedia :

Beliefs of the Nation of Islam

Malcolm X taught that black people were the original people of the world,[69] and that white people were a race of devils who were created by an evil scientist named Yakub.[70] The Nation of Islam believed that black people were superior to white people, and that the demise of the white race was imminent.[71]

When he was questioned concerning his statements that white people were devils, Malcolm X said that "history proves the white man is a devil."[200] He enumerated some of the historical reasons that, he felt, supported his argument: "Anybody who rapes, and plunders, and enslaves, and steals, and drops hell bombs on people... anybody who does these things is nothing but a devil."[201]

Malcolm X said that Islam was the "true religion of black mankind" and that Christianity was "the white man's religion" that had been imposed upon African Americans by their slave-masters.[202] He said that the Nation of Islam followed Islam as it was practiced around the world, but the Nation's teachings varied from those of other Muslims because they were adapted to the "uniquely pitiful" condition of black people in America.[203] He taught that Wallace Fard Muhammad, the founder of the Nation, was Allah incarnate,[204] and that Elijah Muhammad was his Messenger, or prophet.[205]

While the civil rights movement fought against racial segregation, Malcolm X advocated the complete separation of African Americans from white people. The Nation of Islam proposed the establishment of a separate country for black people in the Southern[72] or Southwestern United States[206] as an interim measure until African Americans could return to Africa.[73] Malcolm X suggested the United States government owed reparations to black people for the unpaid labor of their enslaved ancestors.[207] He also rejected the civil rights movement's strategy of nonviolence and instead advocated that black people use any necessary means of self-defense to protect themselves.[74]

Yet there is a whole Blvd named after this scumbag and evil man.

How can you name a BLVD or even a STREET in NYC or anywhere else after this disgusting wicked dirtbag?

You are so diplomatic, Saul.

Go fight for Israel. Make something productive out of that packed up anger in you. Blow people up! Put your money where your mouth is. DO SOMETHING with all that hate!!! Punch a bag. Run a marathon. Fight Lybians, Syrians, Algerians, Jordanians, Iranians, Iraqis, Lebanese, Egyptians, Turks, Somalians, Nigerians, Moroccans, Tunisians, Yemenis, Arabs, Chechens. You've got a lot on your plate! Enlist! Grab a machine gun and go for them, all of them!!! Once you're done with the non-US Islamic world, then you can deal with the ones in this country.

Good luck!!!

I met Malcolm X several times and had good conversations with him. His language was immoderate at times but he also provided real leadership. Our racial history produced extreme responses from a minority of blacks. Much of what Malcolm X urged was valid. He was caricatured by the media and he made many whites fearful.

I did not agree with his approach or his rhetoric. But to label him as a "scumbag" again reveals the depth of your ignorance and the shallowness of your thinking.

Why are you wiping his (you know what)?

These were his comments and his disgusting beliefs, I have other words I would like to use to describe him but they wouldn’t be permitted in this site.
This notorious wicked man was full of hate and he was completely twisted in his thinking and his beliefs. You libs like to blame their unbelievable horrific behavior on whites, America, and everyone else. But you rest assured, Jews were also persecuted all throughout history, and we have never formulated any this kind of crap, and didn’t call people 'devils' and didn’t believe that we were 'racially' superior to other peoples.

And you also know that Jews had suffered way more then African Blacks, but we have never gave ourselves the right to have this wicked beliefs and opinions on other human beings.

Malcolm X was a racist, hateful disgusting human being, and there was no justification for that.

Don’t you believe Ralph, that Blacks can behave like decent human beings, or one should always find for them an excuse to let them off the hook?

When you were in your late teens or early 20s, by my calculation. There seems to be no end to the unfolding of your very interesting life, which you honor us by sharing :)

I wonder if there is a story behind the dual name of Lenox Ave. and Malcolm X Blvd. I looked up Lenox and he was a significant benefactor, worth remembering. I know that in Washington the official name of the lovely and unusual park on 16th Street is still Meridian Hill Park, but the only sign says "Malcolm X Park."

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I feel like even if Saul started a thread denouncing Satan called "Satan the Scumbag" the outcome would be very much the same: jbuck would elaborate on Satan's good points and Ralph would talk about his many pleasant conversations with him. There is no winning for poor Saul, it seems. :P

And I can't help but suppose that had Saul had started a thread called "Felix the Cat",
the outcome would be very much the same: Piston and other cat lovers would elaborate on Felix's good points and Ralph would reminisce about having dined with him, while Saul would denounce the hapless feline as the alter-ego of Felix Dzherzhinsky.
It's unfair, I tells ya!!

Felix does have a lot of good points, including how he changed, evolved and improved his outlook of the feline world during the course of his life. Ditto for Malcolm X with the human world.

The problem with the original post is what I call "instancing," i.e., to rely on a single instance or period in a person's life without any further research about where this person is coming from and where he is going to.

It's not unlike grabbing one particularly nasty contribution from any member here and projecting it as representative for this person's entire life: no growth, no lesson learned, no personal development. Subject A is cast in stone based on that single moment in her/his life. Fair?

Ridiculously unfair.

It does remind me of the Wilbert Rideau case -- a thread which received no explicit attention here.

The guy got nailed as a young man when, during the course of a bank robbery, he took hostages and then the whole situation got out of hand. He panicked and killed them. For more than four decades he paid for his short thirty seconds of panic. The man grew tremendously in jail, on death row for twelve years, began to do some investigative reporting about "The Jungle," including a Pulitzer prize winning 1979 article on "rape" in that Louisiana jail, and developped into a first-rate intellectual being, a perfect example of rehabilitation.

Judge this man on the sole basis of that particular instance and you fail to grasp the very being you have just verbally lapidated.

Actually I have had a number of very fascinating conversations with Satan, the latest about six months ago when he talked about how technology was affecting the Underworld.

One of my fondest memories is of watching Bergman's "The Seventh Seal" with Satan who had juicy comments about his cousin, Death.

But, no, Saul doesn't win because most of the time he paints with a broad swath and for paint he uses unreasoning anger and hatred. On the other hand, I really like his paintings.

The opposite mental process --to beautify a person's ideological position on the basis of a single instance-- is true as well! Our very famous female Representative and Senator, Margaret Chase-Smith, is mostly remembered to today for her noble "Declaration of Conscience" against Joseph McCarthy, in 1950. The problem with that instance is that it's not representative of her nuclear trigger happy positions throughout much of her political life. In fact, the Declaration of Conscience did not bring down McCarthy, partly as a result of North Korea's invasion of South Korea several months later. Old Joseph was back in full force and stayed in his anti-Red seat for another three to four years!

As for Margaret, she was very much of the same opinion as some 81 percent of Americans in the early fifties: nuke China, nuke the USSR, nuke them all!

It baffles the mind today how these nuclear warfare crazed politicians had so little "conscience" of what they were advocating: annihilation!

I would like to see the return of true, reasonable bipartisanship and would hope that the GOP could reclaim its Eisenhower wing and reject the extremists who have taken over their party.

Malcolm X Killer Is Freed on Parole
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: April 27, 2010

The only man to admit shooting Malcolm X was freed Tuesday on parole, 45 years after he helped assassinate the civil rights leader, New York State officials said.

The man, Thomas Hagan, the last person still serving time in the 1965 killing, was freed from a Manhattan prison where he spent two days a week under a work-release program, said Linda Foglia, a spokeswoman for the State Department of Correctional Services.

Mr. Hagan, 69, has said he was one of three people who shot Malcolm X as he began a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem on Feb. 21, 1965. But Mr. Hagan has said the two men convicted with him were not involved. They maintained their innocence and were paroled in the 1980s. No one else has ever been charged.

The assassins killed Malcolm X out of anger at his split with the leadership of the Nation of Islam, the black Muslim movement for which he had once served as chief spokesman, said Mr. Hagan, who was then known as Talmadge X Hayer.

He has repeatedly expressed regret for his role in the assassination, which he described in a 2008 court filing as the deed of a young man who “acted out of rage on impulse and loyalty” to religious leaders.

Reminds me of the (off-topic) story that when "The Madness of George III" was released in the US they changed the name to "The Madness of King George" so Americans wouldn't wonder about the other two movies.
