Pity his threads are still visible. Really, he really is just a spammer of Shmuley Boteach's judeofascist teachings.

It's getting to the stage where someone might as well PM Lance,
asking him to change the software so the default setting is
"everyone = foe".
Then people choose the "friends" whose posts they want to read.

I wish this "anti" stuff would stop -- I mean the threads directed against a particular member.
If you don't like his stuff, don't reply to it. The replying encourages it and increases it. If you reply less (or not at all) -- sure, It'll still go on, but it won't be as prominent.

Re: Add Saul to your ignore list
This is my chief concern as well, as a manifestation of the health of the board. In case anyone has not noticed, the level of posting is way down in every sense, and a number of members who used to make interesting posts on the Pub are pretty scarce these days. However, the music boards still seems healthy, and that is the main point of the site.Chalkperson wrote: Yep, I truly wonder how "visitors" to this Site see us...

Re: Add Saul to your ignore list
Unfortunately, keeping the Pub a "healthy" place where to socialize is a balancing act nobody really can control. I have tried to divert attention away from political or religious combativeness but the fact remains that non-controversial topics do not get much attention. In this sense, this virtual Pub can never be like a real one where folks seek entertainment, not conflict. But what's the point of repeating the same thing numerous times when it does not make a difference!

Re: Add Saul to your ignore list
What drives people away from this site is the number of distasteful threads that get no response --when these threads fill up the view of the Pub, the default assumption is the community's tacit complicty in promoting those lies. No need to reply to the threads, though. Challenge those views in a thread of your own

Pretty much ignored his posts over the long haul 'til they started driving newcomers and veterans off the board. In a way I can't even relate to what y'all are saying, because I barely notice those posts. My eyes just sort of automatically skip over them. For all intents and purposes I don't see most of them.
Of course it helps to be at the point where you don't see too well.
But seriously folks.......it is that hard to just skip over stuff -- quickly and sort of automatically? It's a practice that became second nature to me pretty immediately on the internet -- and I thought it did for most people.

All this coming from someone who replies to him on a regular basis. Hey, don't stop for my sake, you do quite well at monopolizing his attention. Plenty of Saul-MarkC dialogues can be found around here.

OK, that's ONE.
You need to find a bunch more before you're right.
And before you go and do all that work, be forewarned: For every one you find that I replied to, I'd be able to find a hundred that I didn't!
P.S. I'm not stupid enough to do that work though.

But, Strad and I are using a more realistic method of calculation, using the number of posts in which someone actually agrees with what Saul is saying you come out on top, and given the small number of posts that signify agreement with him, I think that "regular basis" definitely applies...MarkC wrote:OK, that's ONE.

"Hate mongering?" One member? Saul?
Well, in the last few days, one member who shall remain nameless, at least for the time being, has sent me several PMs with subject lines like You Scum and GO FRIG YOURSELF WITH A PINEAPPLE, and it wasn't Saul.

Trying to discuss controversial or political topics with people over the internet is going to hurt feelings and cause misunderstanding (or real understanding, which might be even worse). It is like a normally-clothed non-Moslem trying to deal with a Moslem woman in the top-to-bottom style of burka. Even worse, actually - at least if you're talking with the burka-clad woman you can hear her voice. For us, it's letters on a screen. No cues, no hints of anything real. Our bodies are us; seeing bodies & faces matters.
How much do you want to bet that if we were all in the same room together, and we knew everyone else's real name & address to boot, there's less likelihood anyone would feel comfortable saying mean things in the first place?
In any case, "GO FRIG YOURSELF WITH A PINEAPPLE" produced much laughter in my household... Reblem, did your correspondent really say "frig"? Just asking. I'd have used a better word. But that's just me.

In agreement with this whole message. Indeed, when people know that they will eventually converge in a shared physical environment, most of them completely avoid controversy on facebook, even though (or perhaps because) they are closely affiliated. But, now that I am a grandparent, it is funny on occasion to watch a young teenager challenge his mother on facebook.Chosen Barley wrote:Trying to discuss controversial or political topics with people over the internet is going to hurt feelings and cause misunderstanding (or real understanding, which might be even worse). If I understand the usage of the chiefly British "frig" correctly, it is not much in the way of a euphemism or mitigation. However, the meaning is not exactly the same as the word I assume Chosen Barley had in mind, and the subtle difference does present interesting possibilities for giving nuance to the intent of the expression.Chosen Barley wrote:I can't believe I posted what I did, above! I am astonished. I never took any offense @ what Chosen Barley wrote. And I did understand that Chosen Barley meant no insult to me. "Frig" is, I have always assumed, indeed a euphemism, and it does not refer to refrigeration, but to sexual intercourse or a, uhmm, substitute for same.jbuck919 wrote:If I understand the usage of the chiefly British "frig" correctly, it is not much in the way of a euphemism or mitigation.
