John Brosseau - JBuck919 (September 19th, 1954 - January 5th, 2019)

I received yesterday from his sister, Jeanne Barner, the very sad news that our friend, John Brosseau, known here as JBuck919, passed away on January 5th. I had not known Jeanne before, but appreciated her making the effort to let me know. And she asked me to inform his friends at CMG. Apparently he had had a long illness, which many of us didn't know. Indeed, as he was active on CMG within the last month I was shocked to hear of his passing. He was a very witty and erudite fellow, a knowledgeable organist and teacher, and a very cultured man. It is a big loss to our little community here.

Just read this thread, and am shocked beyond words. Jbuck919 was a consistently kind, erudite and knowledgeable man, and I will miss him here and in life. So sad that he could not make last year's conclave. Now I understand why.

I just logged on to CMG at 1:10 on Saturday morning, January 12, 2019, and learned this very sad news about jbuck. This is coming as a shock and was totally unexpected by me and others. We have all enjoyed John Brosseau's comments as noted herein. To say he will be missed here is an understatement. In the past we have had some phone conversations and, of course, enjoyed our meet-ups in New York City. Such a pity. Thank you to Donald Isler for letting us know this awful and unexpected news.

I just saw this a few minutes ago. I am shocked beyond words that I, born in 1942, have survived him. I also announced his death on his FB page, and referenced this thread for the benefit of his other FB friends who are not members of CMG.

John joined CMG on January 28, 2004, if not earlier (some messages have been lost from system crashes), and posted 26,867 messages here. These had tapered off in the last year or so, but he still had the largest number of all active CMG members, even Lance himself. His last was on classical music topics were on December 7 and his last of all was on December 26, subject: "One of my hospitalizations," in which he wrote, "Worry not. Will provide more explanation soon." Ten days later he was dead.

This is very sad news. I met John in person only once--at one of our "meet-ups"--but felt that I knew him better through our electronic interactions on this site and, to a lesser extent, on Facebook. Our little community here has suffered a tremendous loss. Thanks, Don, for bringing this to our attention.

I met John in person only once--at one of our "meet-ups"

Henry we met John about 4 or 5 times over the years-it started when we first joined CMG and had that great dinner he arranged at Gabriel's Bar and Restaurant near the TWC and Columbus Circle-one lovely experience was up where the Hudson River almost begins-a delightful lunch! He described it this way-it was such a pleasure to share this moment with him! Regards, Len

"This is a true story:I got home after my morning errands and saw this message. I thought, "No, it can't be." So I checked my phone, which is not digital but delivers a series of short buzzes when I pick up the receiver to tell me that a message is waiting. Sure enough, it is Len calling from a side trip to Northville on the Great Sacandaga Lake--more remote than where I am if you can believe it. Thanks to his GPS he and Sue and I were able to meet for a very pleasant lunch in nearby (to me, that is) Lake Luzerne on an outdoor patio with a view of the Hudson.I'll let Len tell you the rest.

I cannot put into words how sad this makes me feel. I loved John dearly, loved his wit, his knowledge, everything about him.

I will tell just this one story.

Maybe 12 or so years ago John went missing from CMG, I was concerned about him and via Corlyss managed to contact his sister. She told me he was in a Hospital in Glenn Falls, he was very seriously ill and there was a great concern that he would not survive.

Knowing how much he loved music, but also how picky his taste was I rang him up. I explained that I had bought him an iPod and wanted to fill it up with music, he asked for so manycomposers we all thought he hated, it was all a front and part of his sense of humor.

I went up on the train to Glenn Falls and John was attached to all sorts of machines, the look on his face when I walked in was something I will never forget. He was very ill, but I’d like to think that a couple of hundred hours of music helped him survive.

I always knew that he may become unwell again, I had a feeling a week or so ago that something was wrong. John was 24 days older than me. May he rest in Eternal Peace.

Chalkie, what a lovely and heartwarming tribute to John Brosseau. I have also contacted his sister. There will be no obituary in the newspapers, as per his request, which she is following to the letter. I hope for John that it was a peaceful passing.

I too had no idea, and was deeply shocked to see the headline on this thread. I too will miss him, enjoyed his posts over the years and learned much. I met him once only, at our delightful 2016 New York gathering.
