2020 election food for thought
Hewitt thinks Dems have no chance :

Or, are the 40% going to be turned off by Trump's antics, an economy they perceive as benefiting rich mainly ? My previously expressed concern that 40 % just like Trump, and enough in 2020.

Re: 2020 election food for thought
Hewitt believes the election will depend on economic conditions, and these will be favorable in 18 months' time. Also, presumably, that Trump will get through that period OK. Two big ifs. A third is who the Democratic nominee will be, which presently is a mystery. No, forget about Hewitt and wait until the primary season begins.

I have little faith in an electorate that allowed itself to be hosed by Trump in 2016.

Re: 2020 election food for thought
Don't forget that Trump lost the popular vote in 2018. It was the low-population states whose electoral college votes gave him the election, with an assist from the Russians. It all depends on whether the Democrats can nominate a candidate less unpopular than Hillary Clinton turned out to be, despite winning a majority of the popular votes, and whether potential spoilers keep out of the race (cf. Ralph Nader in 2000). I'm getting nostalgic for the smoke-filled rooms of yesteryear (without the smoke). Wait for the primaries and see what develops.Rach3 wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 2:06 pmI have little faith in an electorate that allowed itself to be hosed by Trump in 2016.

Only 5 of 20 potuses were denied reelection from 1900 on. Fittingly, 4 of those 5 were Republicans.

As long as we do not elect hard-left/hard-right we will be on the best path. I support the electoral college.
Re: 2020 election food for thought
The electoral college is to Missouri's and Arkansas' advantage. With a population of 6.1 million, MO has 10 electoral college votes, each worth 610,000 popular votes. Arkansas, population 3 million, has 6 electoral college votes, each worth 500,000 popular votes. My state, New York, with a population of 19.5 million, has 29 electoral college votes, each worth 672,000 popular votes. No way is that just. But it's how the Constitution was drawn over 200 years ago, and Missouri and Arkansas will defend their unfair electoral advantage through thick and thin - unless, of course, they secede again.

Nancy's blowin' smoke. I'm reluctant to admit this, but -- no way any ex-POTUS is going to jail. Ain't gonna happen, sorry. Hard enough just to beat an incumbent who will likely raise and spend $1 bil.lennygoran wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:19 amstill maybe Trump will be goin' SOMEwhere-namely PRISON! I'm not as skeptical as you are-there could be a path for the unindicted co-conspirator! Regards, Lenjserraglio wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:27 amAin't gonna happen, sorry. Hard enough just to beat an incumbent who will likely raise and spend $1 bil.

Unindictable while in office; unconvictable when out. Short of that he'll cut a deal like Clinton did. Something harsh like a fine and no golf for 5 years. So no man's above the law? Well maybe not, but in the cases of Nixon and Clinton, and now Trump no doubt, the law chose to look the other way.lennygoran wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:35 amI'm not as skeptical as you are-there could be a path for the unindicted co-conspirator! I suspect there's not a jury outside of DC (and not even even the Senate there) that would convict the motha.lennygoran wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 8:32 pmThe sooner we get to test your theory the better! Regards, Len
I'd love to be his lawyer -- slam dunk acquittal -- but, given 'Midtown Mussolini's' penchant for stiffing the hired help, would have to demand payment upfront.
