The greatest concert I have ever heard, including classical. Leonard Cohen, age 79 Live in Dublin DVD video.

Three hours. 8 stunning encores.

Cohen's backing band were all virtuosos. Guitarist Javier Mas plays three instruments I never heard of: bandurria, laud and archilaud.

A couple of hours ago I pulled out this 1984 Warner release, which I hadn't heard in 35 years, Van Dyke Parks' Jump! Upon release it sold in only limited quantities, though it's been available on CD many years. Why it hasn't gone down as a classic of American musical theatre is a mystery, but the likely reason is that its lyrics--by Parks and another writer--use intact Harris' semi-literate Deep South dialect. It's a charmer all the same. Music composed by Parks.

OK, I'll give this a shot to see if anyone notices:

I am a big fan of the pianist Emile Pandolfi. He has a batch of recordings of popular/film/classical music which he performs in his own arrangements. For some it probably will be schmaltzy and overly-arpeggioed and therefore an immediate turn-off. Many will think of him as a cruise-ship musician, I'd bet. But I spin Emile's discs often as a beautiful intermezzo during the day. (PS - my wife loves to hear his sounds coming down from my loft/listening room - as a break from, as she says, all that Shostakovich.)

But I love this stuff. Here's just one:
