John Culshaw: Ring Resounding (1967)
Reading it for the first time: came with the LP package of Solti's Ring which I still have. Listening to each opera as I read Culshaw's account of how it came to be recorded. The Culshaw recording is miraculous.
Re: John Culshaw: Ring Resounding (1967)
I read it many years ago when the Decca Ring had just been made. It is certainly a very interesting page turner as Culshaw was also a professional writer as well as a Record Producer. His other unfinished autobiography, ‘Putting the Record Straight’ was Written after he left Decca and is a lot more critical of the company. Both books certainly make compulsive reading. He was certainly a visionary who had an enormous impact on the recording industry
